Book Description
This collection publishes the materials of the international seminar "The Leadership Culture of the North Caucasus during the Great Migration of Peoples and the General European Context", held in Makhachkala in November 2013. The articles discuss the problems of the formation of an elite military material culture, publish bright materials from the burials of military leaders and the retinue class. The international nature of the prestigious finds testifies to similar processes of the formation of early state formations and the emergence of new centers of power that took place at the end of antiquity and at the beginning of the Middle Ages in a wide area from Western Europe to the southern Russian steppes, the Crimea and the North Caucasus. The second block of articles is devoted to the results of bioarchaeological studies of materials of different times - from the Mesolithic and Neolithic to the Middle Ages. Of particular interest is the use of natural science methods for the reconstruction of models of interaction between ancient man and the environment. The issue will attract the attention of archaeologists and representatives of related disciplines, as well as anyone interested in Russia's rich historical heritage.
